Internships
Wildlife Encounters offers internships to university & high school students to fulfill internship credit for classes, or for students wanting to gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation education, animal husbandry, k-12 education and animal science.
Responsibilities
Wildlife Encounters offers a variety of specializations for internships. We realize each individual has interest in particular fields of study and interest. Our internships can include all of the following duties below or just some. We have a flexible internship program where we work with you on your program to include duties that will improve your field of study and interest.
Animal Diet - feeding and providing diets for our animal ambassadors.
Cleaning - oh yes, there is a lot of cleaning. Whether it be scooping up kangaroo poop or cleaning out reptile enclosures, there is a lot to be done.
Enrichment - help create plans to keep animals minds and bodies active.
Curriculum Planning - assist in the planning and implementation of summer camp activities, educational programs and social media content.
Public Speaking - for those interested we have opportunities to help fine tune your public speaking skills.
And lots more! If one of these task above are not something you are interested in thats fine. We work with our interns to create a internship program that fits your studies and preference.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age and enrolled in a college or high school.
A strong interest in wildlife, early childhood education, science and/or nature education.
Demonstrated ability to follow directions and understand task given.
Excellent communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
Ability to arrive at work on time and maintain a positive attendance record.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Energetic personality.
Great time management skills.
Comfortable around a variety of animals and wildlife.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
